Engine Coolant Supplier for East Africa

High-altitude formulations for the East African plateau — where boiling point, not freeze point, is what fails first.

East Africa is the one African region where altitude changes the specification. Nairobi sits at 1,795 m and Addis Ababa at 2,355 m. At those heights water boils at roughly 94 °C and 92 °C instead of 100 °C, and a coolant rated 107 °C at sea level delivers only about 100 °C and 98 °C there. A loaded truck climbing out of the Rift Valley uses that margin up quickly.

Which grade for which altitude

Boiling point falls about 1 °C per 300 m of altitude. Figures below are atmospheric, before the pressure cap adds roughly 20–25 °C back into the system — which is exactly why a marginal coolant can survive the coast and fail on the highlands.

Mombasa, Dar es Salaam & coastal stripSea levelHumidity-driven corrosion; no freeze risk0 °C
Nairobi & central highlands1,795 mBoiling point ≈ 94 °C — margin is the constraint0 °C, high boil-over

What is on the road

  • Toyota Hiace, Land Cruiser and Hilux — the dominant Japanese parc across all three markets
  • Sinotruk and Shacman tippers on construction and mining haulage
  • Light trucks from Chinese and Indian brands entering on price
  • Generator sets for commercial premises where grid supply is intermittent

Shipping and loading

Documents and clearance

  • PVoC support — pre-export verification for KEBS (Kenya) and TBS (Tanzania)
  • SDS in the 16-section GHS format for every formulation
  • Certificate of analysis per batch — freeze point, boil point, pH, reserve alkalinity
  • Certificate of Origin for preferential duty treatment

PVoC is a pre-export verification of conformity performed by an appointed inspection body against the destination standard. We prepare the product data, SDS and batch test reports that inspection depends on, and we will confirm what we can and cannot issue before you place an order.

Common questions

Do we need antifreeze in East Africa at all?›

For freeze protection, no — Mombasa and Dar es Salaam never approach 0 °C. But 'no antifreeze needed' is not the same as 'any coolant will do'. What protects a radiator in Nairobi is boil-over margin and a corrosion package that survives hard water, which is what the 0 °C grade is specified for.

Does altitude really change which coolant I should buy?›

It changes the margin, not the product family. At 1,795 m a cooling system loses about 6 °C of headroom, and at 2,355 m about 8 °C. If your coolant was already marginal at sea level, it is now failing on the climb — not because the product changed, but because the air pressure did.

What is the minimum order?›

Retail-ready cartons: 1,200 × 2 L bottles (100 cartons), 600 × 4 L jugs, or 400 × 5 L drums. Bulk drums: 100 units. Mixed containers are accepted across product families.

Can you supply SDS before we order?›

Yes, for the specific formulation you are considering — not a generic template. Tell us the SKU and the destination country and we send the matching document.
